Newsletter - December 2023

Read Coverting Letter - Rama’s squirrel calling …..
December 2023, Vol.8;  No.10

Dear Friends,

Floods in Tamil Nadu's southern districts and especially Thoothukudi - which received 950 mm, nearly a metre, of rainfall between Sunday, 17th December and Monday, 18th December - literally washed away villages, killing six persons and leaving tens of thousands marooned on rooftops, surviving on air-dropped food packets and awaiting rescue. No doubt rain was heavy, however the disaster was man made because of poor planning and maintenance of irrigation systems and poor storm water drainage mechanism. More such disasters are going to occur in the near future because of global warming and changing pattern of rainfall.  It is time the city planners create resilient towns and cities to reduce the damage and human sufferings.

This month’s newsletter has the following highlights:
  • Dr.Sanjay Banerji in his blog writes on Adjusting Entries in Financial Accounting
  • Shri.Rangarajan, translates a few shlokas from the rare book on Ramanathaswami Temple
  • Dr.A.Abirami, Programme Officer of the C.P.R. Environmental Educational Center, Chennai writes on the herbal plant –  Punarnava  (Hogweed)
  • In Eco-tourism, a story of  E-Rickshaw Driver Shri.Subramani admitting the patient who had an attack of Paralysis to the hospital
  • In Social capital - Teertha Poojas, Celebration of Gita Jayanthi, Prize Distribution function for the winners of School competitions, SHG competitions, Collection of sacred Waters from Rameswaram for Ayodhya’s Sri Rama temple consecration, Webinars and finally newsletter by the students and for the students of Rameswaram

This classical work on Sri Ramanatha Swami of Rameswaram was composed by “Palapattadai Chokkanatha Pillai”. This work was discovered by Dr.U.Ve.Saminatha Iyer after comparing multiple versions. He also wrote a commentary on this rare text.

With the blessings of Lord Ramanatha Swami, Mother Parvathavardhini & Lord Rama, here is an attempt to provide a reasonable translation of this work, in English. Any error can be ascribed to me.
