November 2023, Vol.8;  No.09

Dear Friends,

Today is World Soil Day (5th December). Our planet’s survival depends on the precious link between soil and water. Over 95 percent of our food originates from these two fundamental resources. Soil water, vital for nutrient absorption by plants, binds our ecosystems together. This symbiotic relationship is the foundation of our agricultural systems.

However, in the face of climate change and human activity, our soils are being degraded, putting excessive pressure on our water resources. Erosion disrupts the natural balance, reducing water infiltration and availabile for all forms of life.

Sustainable soil management practices, such as minimum tillage, crop rotation, organic matter addition, and cover cropping, improve soil health, reduce erosion and pollution, and enhance water infiltration and storage. These practices also preserve soil biodiversity, improve fertility, and contribute to carbon sequestration, playing a crucial role in the fight against climate change. Green Rameswaram project – on our part trying to preserve the soil and water by Renovating the water bodies and implementing the projects such as kitchen / terrace garden etc.

This month’s newsletter has the following highlights:
  • Dr.Sanjay Banerji in his blog writes on Financial Accounting with reference to Journal Entries

  • In Social capital - Teertha Poojas, Celebration of Sadhana Diwas, Igniting Students for a Green and Resilient Rameswaram by way of competitions, Webinars and finally 'Green Rameswaram newsletter’ by the students and for the students of Rameswaram

Rain God Varuna was kind enough in this month by giving copious rain.  In the process, not only the inner pond but the outer pond also filled partially with good quality water. Villagers are happy to see the new water body which will help in recharging the nearby wells and will help in changing the entire eco system by way of flora and fauna.
