Newsletter - October 2023
Dear Friends,
As usual, Delhi the Nation’s capital is chocked with toxic air in the first week of November before Deepawali. The Air Quality Index (AQI) went up to 600 although the safe limit is only 100. This pollution is man-made and occurring year after year, although it can be easily avoidable by proper interventions such as not burning the paddy straw mainly in Punjab as well as in the nearby states of Haryana. The paddy straw can be easily converted into compost by mulching in the soil itself or converting the biomass into biogas for various usages. This is happening because of poor governance and not because of want of technology. We at Rameswaram have introduced Bio-methanation technology for converting kitchen as well as farm waste into a fuel as well as bio-fertiliser. The solution lies in decentralized waste management rather than finding a centralized solution or passing on the toxic gases to the neighbouring areas.
This month’s newsletter has the following highlights:- Dr.Sanjay Banerji in his blog writes on Financial Accounting with reference to Journal Entries
- Usual work carried out by Hand in Hand Inclusive Development Services in “Solid waste management”
- Dr.A.Abirami, Programme Officer of the C.P.R. Environmental Educational Center, Chennai writes on the herbal plant – Foetidcassia (Chakramarda)
- In the Revival and Renovation of Teerthams vertical, we are covering the progress made in the work of the Simha Water body
- In Social capital - Teertha Poojas, Kalam Marathon, Teerthams cleaning, Igniting Students for a Green and Resilient Rameswaram by way of competitions, Webinars and finally 'Green Rameswaram newsletter’ by the students and for the students of Rameswaram
