Solid Waste Management

To commemorate the ‘World Tourism Day’, a string of events were organized by the Tourism Department in the governments schools of Pamban, Thangachimadam and Rameswaram. Essay and drawing competitions were conducted in each of these schools based on the “Swachh Bharat’ theme. On 27 September 2018, the ‘World Tourism Day’, a felicitation ceremony was organized at the Green Rameswaram Trust building to award the winners of the competitions.The District Collector Mr. K. Veera Raghava Rao, I.A.S. was the chief guest at the event, and presented the awards to the winners.

Habitat

Deciduous trees; up to 15 m; bark 8-10 mm thick, grey, smooth; outer layer thin, inner layer thick, brittle, creamy; blaze greenish-yellow; latex milky white. Leaves simple, opposite, distichous, estipulate; petiole 2-5 mm long, stout, glabrous; lamina 3.5-11 x 2-4 cm, oblong-lanceolate or elliptic-ovate; base acute; apex acuminate or caudate acuminate; margin entire, glabrous, glaucous beneath, chartaceous; lateral nerves 5-10 pairs, slender, arched, pinnate, prominent, inter-costae reticulate. Flower bisexual, white, scented, in terminal cymes appearing along with new leaves; pedicel 1.5 mm long, bracts 2, minute; calyx lobes 5, with membranous margin, 2 mm, ovate, obtuse, ciliate, glandular inside; corolla salver shaped, lobes 5, broad lobes 12 x 5 mm, oblong, obtuse, throat with 1-2 series of erect, fimbriate corona scales, tube 1.5-2mm; stamens 5, inserted on the mouth of the tube, anthers sagitate, spurred at base, conniving and adhering to the stigma; disc absent; carpels 2, free, many ovuled, style filiform, stigma ovoid, usually with a toothed basal ring. Fruit of 2 follicular mericarps, 15-45 cm long, slender, smooth, green, cylindric, cohering at the tip; seed 16 mm long, black, commate at one end. (India Biodiversity Portal.com).

Workshop on Pasumaiyum and Thooimaiyum

On September 30, 2018 Green Rameswaram conducted a workshop on Pasumaiyum and Thoomaiyum. We invited our Pasumai group members to attend the workshop. Around 66 pasumai group members attended the workshop. Session started with the Introduction to Pasumai Rameswaram activities. We started exploring the definition of Pasumai. Group members together concluded that living in tune with nature is Pasumai. Then we started exploring what is living in tune with the nature. Lots of exchanges of ideas, ideologies, cross questions and myths shared. Beauty is that for every question or counter they themselves had the answer. Then we concluded that to begin with following roducts may be explored in our pasumai groups

Green Health Free Siddha Varma Medical Camp

Siddha Varma Camp

Third Free Siddha Medical Camp was organized on 18th September 2018. Dinamalar again associated and promoted the programme through media publications.

This programme was held in Mohabeer Dharmasala, Office of Green Rameswaram Project. Yoga and Varma goes hand to hand. It has inter-links. Since Yoga has been widely practiced and taught at Mohabeer Dharmasala, it is fitting that Varma camp has been held at this place.

Camp started with a prayer and lighting of the lamp. Dr.Ganapathy gave inaugural speech. The treatment to patients was given from 10 am to 2 pm. 470 patients were benefited from the event, out of 470, around 200 were ladies. Medicines were also provided free of cost.
