Water Management

 To commemorate the 150 year anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, VK‐Natural Resources Development Project (VK‐nardep) an integral part of Vivekananda Kendra, decided to take up the renova on of the tradi onal water bodies (TWB) in Rameshwaram island. The conven onal‐popular geography of the island is marked by various tradi onal water bodies (TWB). A preliminary survey done by VK‐nardep has revealed that there are 11 ponds, 4 wells and 1 sea bathing enclosures which for centuries have been part of the geography of Rameshwaram. But subsequently they were mostly neglected and le polluted. The renova on and revival of the TWB was envisioned to have the following impacts at different levels for the society and environment.
