Dear Friends,

This month we shall discuss the 16th Sustainable Development Goal: ‘Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions’. In this blog, we shall try to explain:

What it is and why is this relevant
What are its indicators and targets
Where do we stand in India
What can we do to support the goal

As stated earlier, I have little to contribute on my own. I have attempted to provide a few references, so that if anyone is interested in probing deeper, you could do so.

Thirumurai/Thevaram songs on Rameswaram

Glory to Lord Siva, who is worshipped in southern region (தென்னாடுடைய சிவனே போற்றி!)

Saivite saint-poet Sri Thirunavakkarasu Perumaan has composed wonderful hymns on Rameswaram in lilting Tamil. This comes as part of the 4th canto of “Thirumurai”, a compendium of devotional songs on Lord Siva.

Mr. Dinesh Ponraj Oliver, District Collector of Ramanathapuram visited the Municipality thrice to review the precautionary measures in place to contain COVID-19 spread. During the visits, he gave instructions to Municipal officials to follow.

Pasumai Groups Promotion

Green Rameswaram team started promoting Pasumai groups from March 2021 onwards. As reported earlier, we have promoted 29 groups in March and in this month, we have added 16 new groups. Thus we are having 45 Pasumai groups. Status of the promoted groups are as follows:

Savings mobilized Rs.61400 for the month and cumulative stands at Rs.1,00,000/-
Total number of members reached 602
Subscription amount collected Rs. 6020 for the month
Pasumai Subscription amount collected Rs. 4000 for the month

E-Rickshaws for Pilgrims

Our E-Vehicles served the pilgrims very well till Tamil new year (14th April, 2021) but after that due to corona outbreak the numbers have reduced. This month’s figures are as follows:

Krishna Teertham Renovation Pooja

On 10 April 2021 Krishna Teertham survey was completed by Revenue department, however survey stones are yet to be installed. Village committee members organised pooja on 11 April 2021. However, due to pandemic, it was decided to start the work after some time depending on the situation.
