Hand in Hand Inclusive Development and Services, Chennai

Door to Door Collection and Garbage Segregation

Everyday door-to-door waste collection and source segregation along with street cleaning were carried out uninterruptedly.

Source Segregation Demo Programme

Four Source Segregation Demonstration programme were organized on 1st, 2nd and 5th of July at New Street (Ward No:15), Kattupillaiyar Kovil and two at Anna Nagar (Ward No: 10).

In this Progaramme, our staff and green friends gave awareness to households in each ward on the types of waste, segregation of waste and the importance and benefits of recycling. A live demonstration on Source Segregation was organized for the public.

Distribution and Habitat

Chrysopogon zizanioides belonging to the family Poaceae is a perennial grass with thick fibrous adventitious roots which are aromatic and highly valued and widely distributed in India, Burma, Sri Lanka, and spread from Southwest Asia to tropical Africa.

The plant is a large tufted bunchgrass and can reach up to 1.5 metres (5 feet) in height. The roots clustered; 2 mm diameter; varying colour from cream to light yellow and sometimes even brown colour; and slightly bitter, pungent, and aromatic, grows densely in any soil type.
