The Tamil Nadu government’s plan for a “carbon neutral Rameswaram” involves making it a carbon-neutral hub by focusing on renewable energy, sustainable transportation (including low-emission public transit and e-auto-rickshaws), comprehensive waste management through bio-CNG plants and biomining, and increased afforestation to enhance carbon sinks. It is a welcome move and will strengthen our efforts of the last decade to make Green Resilient Rameswaram.

This month’s newsletter has the following highlights:

  • Under Archaeology and Heritage, we covered Pasumai Mahalir SHG meeting and online Palsuvai Nigaltchi
  • Dr. A. Abirami, Programme Officer of the C.P.R. Environmental Educational Center, Chennai writes on the herbal plant – Cotton candy berry (Then pazham).
  • In Livelihood we have covered the training programmes.
  • In Landscaping and beautification, covered Cleaning campaign at Agni Teertham, Green Mission programme of Govt. of Tamil Nadu
  • Under Revival and Renovation of Teerthas, we covered Teertha cleaning and Poojas at several places including Maha Teertha pooja at Panacha Teertham.
  • In Social capital, Universal Brotherhood day celebration, Anandalayas, School competitions, Deepa pooja and finally newsletter by the students and for the students of Rameswaram.
