Assam’s recent floods, among the worst in decades, have affected over eight lakh people and claimed several lives. While triggered by extreme rainfall, the disaster has been intensified by environmental degradation and the growing impacts of climate change.
This is not Assam’s challenge alone—India as a whole is becoming increasingly vulnerable to climate change and global warming. Recognizing this early, we prepared the ‘Green Resilient Rameswaram’ plan in 2017 as a roadmap for sustainable and climate-resilient development.
This month’s newsletter highlights the following:
- Archaeology and Heritage: Coverage of the Kutumba Kshema Pooja and the online Palsuvai Nigaltchi programme.
- Green Health: An informative article on the nutritional benefits of Banyard Millet (Kuthiraivali) by Dr. A. Abirami, Programme Officer, C.P.R. Environmental Education Centre and Free Siddha Medical Camp.
- Livelihood: Reports on the various skill development and livelihood training programmes conducted during the month.
- Revival and Renovation of Teerthams: Maha Teertha pooja along with updates on the regular Teertha pooja activities.
- Social Capital: Highlights of Guru Purnima celebrations, Teertha Mitra meeting, Anandalaya teachers meeting along with the report of Anandalayas, School competitions and a newsletter prepared by students from Rameswaram.

Archaeology and History
Kutumba Kshema Pooja
During July 2026, six Kutumba Kshema Pūjās were conducted for the welfare, peace, and prosperity of families. The programme included prayers, traditional lamp lighting, collective Ārati, and special prayers for family harmony and wellbeing. A total of 99 participants took part with devotion and a spirit of unity. Prasādam (Kesari) and manjal-kumkumam were distributed as blessings. The programmes concluded successfully, and participants expressed their satisfaction with the arrangements.

Distribution and Habitat
Echinochloa frumentacea is a monocotyledonous annual cereal grass of the Poaceae family. It is a fast-growing, tufted, erect to sub-erect herb cultivated mainly as a food grain and fodder crop. The crop is native to India and is widely grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions of Asia, including China, Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.

Training programme
In the month of July 03 Training programmes conducted and 16 Peoples attended. The training was mainly on Kitchen garden. The following points were covered.
Revival and Renovation of Traditional Water Bodies
Teertha Pooja
During this month, Teertha Poojas were performed at 12 traditional water bodies with the participation of 194 volunteers. Members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), Teertha Mitras, and yoga students actively participated in conducting the poojas.
Social Capital
Guru Purnima
Guru Purnima is celebrated every year. This year, the celebration was held at 44 locations, with 1150 participation which includes mainly the school students and others.
